Liquid Hip

About Liquid [Hip]

Liquid [Hip] is an alternative review site that covers cool, not popular. Sometimes it's new. Sometimes it's retro. Sometimes it's music. Sometimes it's a book. Sometimes it's artistic. Lately, it's on break. Whatever.

It's partly inspired by a little building that once existed at 231 East 47th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The building that Andy built no longer exists, but the idea behind it does.

Liquid [Hip] is kind of an online hangout for us, but open to anyone with eclectic interests. We're looking to discover interesting things and any ads or links you see just help pay the rent of $100 or so a year. Maybe some day we'll even help lift some artist up, but we make no such assumptions.

Site Exploration

We don't have an editorial calendar and generally schedule things to run when it suits us. We used to have a fairly regular schedule but are temporarily publishing fewer reviews per week.

The funky little icons will help you find what you're looking for on any given day. Most of it is lumped together well enough, with some reviews finding a home in two sections if it seems to fit.

Everything is always subject to change. But the general idea right now is that we're reviewing two musicians a and one author one most weeks, with everything else coming back when we're compelled to add it. Please be patient.

Reviews, Pitches, And Other Stuff

We're open to ideas, but only on the condition anything considered might not be reviewed. Duds will be donated away or perhaps offered up to friends who frequent X. Or, maybe, we'll save some and destroy them on YouTube. You never know. We don't even know.

Send ideas or pitches to our editor by e-mail via "inquiries." But don't expect too much. We haven't written much around here in a long time as everybody is busy with bigger projects.  Please do not send unsolicited fan written reviews. From time to time we invite guest reviewers but these voluntary arrangements are always done in advance. Maybe one day we'll hire reviewers. But not today.

We do not subscribe to any pay-per-post models or sell links, and our opinions cannot be bought. We thought about it for a long time. And after those intense 37 seconds, we all laughed. We'd rather review stuff we like. And the vast majority of this stuff that we like we already own. The only exception is sometimes we receive advance copies or products so we can get a jump on release dates.

That's about all there is, we think. All of us were seasoned reviewers, people who weren't satisfied with the mainstream media that puts popular front and center of the review process. Otherwise, we had a blast and might again, but it's doubtful. We keep playing with ideas that just never come to pass because our editor, Rich, works as an author with an acting hobby (among other things), Justin became a surf bum, Kim traded up for a corporate title, and all our other staff members started living the lives we used to write about. Pretty cool? We think so.
